The European Association of Substance Abuse Research (EASAR) is a network of leading European research institutes and research supporting agencies which are active in the area of substance related disorders. In 1994 it was set up in close cooperation with the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organisation and in consultation with the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drugs Addiction (EMCDDA).

The object of the association is to stimulate and strengthen European cooperation in any field of research of abuse of psycho-active substances in order to improve the prevention and treatment and to contribute in this manner to the wellbeing of people. The association tries to accomplish this object among other things by:

Members

Currently 20 research institutes and research supporting organisations are represented in EASAR.

Activities

In addition to many bilateral activities of single members, EASAR organizes an annual scientific conference. The main emphasis concerning the conference style is not laid on lectures but on panel discussions concerning controversial points or conceptual/ methodological problems. Participation on the conference is possible for all scientific staff members of the EASAR institutes as well as invited guests.

Application for membership

If you are interested to become a member of EASAR please contact one of the board members. You should be a director or a leading senior scientist in the field of substance abuse research, working together with other colleagues in that field, and with a long term commitment in this research topic.

Applicants for membership usually will be invited to actively participate in one or two annual meetings before the board members will make a final decision.
