One-Day Workshop on Thursday April 28, 2011, (10.00 am-16.00 pm) Using the Measurement in the Addiction for Triage and Evaluation (MATE). Gerard M., Schippers, Theo G. Broekman & Angela Buchholz Patients entering psychiatric treatment, and in particular in the substance abuse treatment, deserve proper assessment, both at intake, to ensure adequate matching to levels of care and to treatment modules, and during and after treatment for monitoring and evaluation. The Amsterdam Institute for Addiction Research (AIAR) developed in co-operation with Bureau Bêta in Nijmegen a new, European interview system: the MATE: Measurements in the Addiction for Triage & Evaluation. The MATE can be considered an alternative for the Addiction Severity Index (ASI; McLellan et al., 1992). The MATE is based on the WHO classifications ICD-10 & ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health). Its primary objectives are to obtain as much reliable and valid information as necessary, but as little as possible, in order to allocate patients to treatments of different intensities (triage) and to evaluate the treatment. In co-operation with the IFT [German Institute for Therapy Research, München], the DHS [German Council on Addiction Problems] and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster), a German version has been developed and tested (Buchholz et al., 2009). The MATE has been presented in Addiction (Schippers e.a., 2010) and in Sucht (Buchholz, u. a., 2009). Information and copies of the instrument can be accessed via: http://www.mateinfo.eu. We will introduce the MATE during this workshop and will train the attendees in the assessment and in the possibilities for the use of the MATE in different European countries. Participants will be provided beforehand with German and English versions of the MATE materials and the scientific papers. References: Registration: Location:
